Medallion Update
Work continues on the ceiling medallion. The clay blanket was laid out on top of the medallion and the mother case was cast on top. The above photo shows the case with some of the clay still in side of the case. The case is drying, then it will be sanded and shellacked and prepared for casting of the urethane mould.
This photo shows the completed case and mould for another piece to go back on the ceiling. This mould was a brush on mould taken off a piece still attached to the ceiling. A case was later fabricated to support the mould.
This small ceiling on the main level is nearing completion. I'll repair the medallion next week.
On the main ceiling Carlos, Hector and James continue to apply the finish coat to the upper areas of the soffit. This smooth hard coat plaster is applied directly over the drywall. No sanding is necessary. A much superior method over traditional drywall with joints filled wih drywall mud.
The medallion is almost ready to be cast early next week.
Its a mad rush to finish up this project and make way for the painters. I met with the architect earlier this past week and he is pleased with the progress of the work. Working with Dean Thompson and crew from Precision Plastering has made this job a lot of fun.
