I didn't mean to disappear for so long but when you get out of the habit of blogging it is easy to forget about it. I have spent most of my time the last few months designing new projects, but we have returned to Port Arthur to continue working on the old ceiling here in the old Port Arthur Savings Bank Building.
This is the medallion from the center of the ceiling. It is 5 feet wide by 9 feet long. We only had a little more than half of the medallion. We have removed it from the ceiling and have been cleaning it and reassembling it. It is very fragile and had some water damage. Several pieces we just barely hanging from the ceiling and other parts were glued in like concrete.
I had originally hoped to make four moulds to work from but realized that we would have to create a complete half to make sure everything fit perfectly.
All in all it is coming along nicely. Over three quarters of the mouldings have been restored or touched up. Soon the smooth ceiling plaster will be restored then the painters will come in to restore the murals.
