Today we took a long bike ride around the island followed later by a drive around the island. Kiawah is a beautiful island. The home range from little cottages from the 40's or 50's to multimillion dollar mansions and a little of everything in between. The beach, the marshes and the wooded forest are lush and alive with wildlife. We saw deer loafing around and were able to see crabs crawling around the marsh at low tide.
We drove out to the Ocean Course for a look. The Ocean Course was the site of the 2012 PGA Championship. It is ranked number 25th in the country. While I didn't bring any clubs this trip I hope I can come back for a round in the future. I really liked this detail I found on the clubhouse.
I love shingle style homes and I consider myself more of a craftsman or New England shingle style type person. That surprises people who think I would want to live in an ornate French or English period home being an ornamental craftsman. I'm a little more rustic, with a hint of Art Deco in my blood. My wife's dream house is an English cottage. She loves the English romance style. I think we can find a balance with some to please both of us when we begin building our dream home someday.
Being a golfer I have never had my picture taken with the Rolex clock prevalent at some prestigious courses. My brother insisted.
We also had Mom and Dad pose for a picture too.
Tonight my wife and I served a low country shrimp boil for supper. Each couple has had a night to cook for everyone. Surprisingly there were almost no leftovers. Cooking for 14, I was worried we would have too much or not enough. We were right on the money. It's been a fun day and a fun week so far. Three days left and it will be back to the grind!
